Matt Gibson practices across the intellectual property spectrum, including U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution and patent litigation including post-grant proceedings. Mr. Gibson assists his clients in performing due diligence and clearance analyses, including infringement and invalidity opinions. Mr. Gibson’s experience also includes trademark prosecution and litigation, trade secret matters, and franchising and licensing agreements. His technical experience includes a wide array of fields, such as electrical systems, telecommunications, mechanical systems, medical devices, and software.

In addition to his practice at Conley Rose, Mr. Gibson served as general counsel for a technology-focused oilfield service company, where he was responsible for advising the executive team on all legal issues, developing and implementing intellectual property strategies, and engaging with the R&D team and outside counsel to prepare and prosecute patent applications. Mr. Gibson also drafted and negotiated customer contracts, assisted the executive team with strategic business planning and legal strategies to exploit competitive advantages, and managed outside counsel.

In his role as general counsel, Mr. Gibson adopted a value-oriented approach to IP portfolio management and carries those lessons learned with him today, seeking to maximize his clients’ return while taking into account their unique budgetary considerations. During his time in-house, Mr. Gibson cultivated a close working relationship with outside counsel and understands the value of prompt and personal communication, swift recommendations and resolutions for his clients’ issues, and a professional and courteous working relationship. Simply put, he treats his clients the way he wanted to be treated.

Mr. Gibson was also seconded to a Firm client for several months to perform an in-depth freedom-to-operate and infringement analysis for medical laboratory equipment.
